CLASSIC IMAGE: DARKNESS AND HUMOUR, VIA "THE VADER SESSIONS"

1977 promotional image of Vader, taken by Bob Seidemann.

Prior to the revelations of The Empire Strikes Back and their conclusion with Return of the Jedi, it's interesting to note that Darth Vader was originally conceived as a separate individual to Anakin Skywalker, the man whom he would ultimately betray and kill. Alan Dean Foster's 1976 adaptation of the film, based on script drafts prior to filming, establishes this idea of Vader as a unique and deadly singular foe, with the intriguing notion that Vader is so powerful and mysterious now that Obi-Wan Kenobi is trying to figure out what the Sith Lord's long-term objectives are in the Dark Side of the Force, and what 'further abomination' purpose might be coming.

On a lighter note, here's a very funny youtube video: what would happen if Vader's dialogue was replaced with other James Earl Jones movie dialogue. The results are often hilarious, especially with Princess Leia.

Note: this contains adult humour which some people may find offensive.
