CLASSIC ART: BATTLE IN VADER'S SHADOW...

Darth Vader has lever looked more skull-like and frightening than in this cover (by artist unknown) for a sadly un-produced British science fiction magazine, SPACE FANTASY, from 1977, which was the brainchild of UK comics/magazine entrepeneur Dez Skinn, creator of the popular STARBURST MAGAZINE, HALL OF HAMMER horror magazine and DOCTOR WHO WEEKLY (later DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE), the latter title for the British strand of MARVEL COMICS.

Check out Skinn's detailed and enjoyable website for more info on SPACE FANTASY and his super career: Dez Skinn Dot Com

The distinctive STAR WARS cover art by Brian Lewis for the first issue of the UK STARBURST magazine.

This month, Skinn, known by his fans and his admiring contemporaries as "the British Stan Lee", will see his STARBURST baby about to be re-launched as a printed magazine (which originally arrived on newsstands in the late seventies with the double whammy appeal of STAR WARS and STAR TREK on its first issue cover), and we wish its new team the best of success. With Skinn presumably as an advisor on the project, possessing a strong business acumen and instinctive flair for knowing what people want to see and read in a competitive market, how can STARBURST not be popular all over again...
