EPISODE VII: WILL VADER RETURN?
The crazy sequel rumour mill is flying around at the moment as we all wait with bated breath for more official news. One such piece of barminess out there is that Darth Vader will be coming back from the funeral pyre to be the villain.
Sounds crazy, right?
But...if the new EPISODE VII story does indeed take place 50 years or so after JEDI (as rumoured), and the once destroyed Empire returns, who better a sinister figurehead to spearhead their resurrection against the New Republic, and bring terror to their hearts, than somebody inside a similar Dark Lord shell costume to rouse the flames of revenge. Sounds corny, but if done right, with a bit of mystery and atmosphere to it all, it might actually work. Don't forget, the original storylines for Episode VII to IX mentioned over the years by Gary Kurtz had Luke's sister, who was not Leia, coming in to help defeat the Emperor, Vader and the last remnants of a pushed back Empire once and for all. Luke's "other" sister could now be his or Leia's daughter? Having a new Vader would kinda link into those early red ring binder ideas (whoever's in the bulky Vader suit doesn't necessarily have to be disfigured or need an iron lung to wear it, either- what if someone were actually willing to undergo the transformation to rally the Empire? It could be like Lucas's overall backstory concept for General Grievous). Imagine all the tremendous action possibilities they could do with the franchises top iconic villain-a more pure evil foe than ever before- with an invigorating twist. With a new person inhabiting the armoured visage it might work a lot better than the sloppy, not really explained yet way they re-introduced Darth Maul back into THE CLONE WARS and fill in the audiences expectations for Vader after never having any kind of movie set between EPISODEs III and IV and the Jedi Purge.
Doesn't sound so bad after all, does it?
