ROTJ AT 30: CREATING AN EMPEROR

Rising talent and assistant to Stuart Freeborn, Nick Dudman, applies the complex make-up to Ian McDiarmid for his upcoming portrayal of the Emperor, filmed in maximum top-secret filming conditions, at Elstree Studios in Spring 1982. The actor had been a firm favourite of casting director Mary Selway, and he beat out other rising eighties UK star competitor talent like Ben Kinglsey and David Suchet for the important role.
