GOODBYE, COLIN HIGGINS...

I was sad to hear today of the passing of the original Wedge Antilles, British actor Colin Higgins, via the website JEDI NEWS. STAR WARS AFICIONADO was the first to reveal the actors name as playing Wedge in its magazine pages back in 2004 (before STARWARS.COM) and briefly exchanged an email conversation with him at the time about his May 1976 filming of STAR WARS at Shepperton Studios, which, in retrospect, he enjoyed despite the problems that saw him being replaced by another actor-the soon iconic Denis Lawson-for the later X-wing pilot filming at Elstree Studios.

A nice guy, who made an important and memorable appearance and signing at the STAR WARS CELEBRATION IV convention in 2007, Higgins was a popular actor on UK television and appeared in many long running dramas and comedy. He will be missed, but his contribution to the STAR WARS saga will be remembered and appreciated.
