CLASSIC DESIGN WEEK. PIC THREE - DAGOBAH
Out in the UK this week is the long-awaited, new nice price edition of the lavish and informative STAR WARS: BLUEPRINTS hardcover book by J.W. Rinzler, available from TITAN BOOKS. In celebration of the must-have title, this week we're having a week-long celebration of some of the six film's classic production designs.
With such an ambitious amount of new and bigger sets in comparison to the original STAR WARS a few years earlier, day three continues honouring the environs of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, with the construction challenges of the swamp world planet of Dagobah-home to the diminutive Jedi Master, Yoda. Built soon after the completed filming on the Rebel Hangar, the Elstree STAR WARS STAGE's new transformation would be an incredible one, looking as if it had sprung from the mind of Hans Christian Andersen, filled with specially built giant trees and strewn with a huge variety of weird and wonderful plants, plus animal life- not always of the most pleasant kind-proving a huge challenge for the solitary Mark Hamill and the production team to shoot on. And beware the huge pond housing Luke's crashed X-wing- soon becoming a place of foul smelling water and bacterias, often prone to crew members inadvertently falling into it!
