AN 'EMPIRE' AT 40: THE TRAINING CONTINUES...

Mark Hamill with the dummy-ish radio-controlled backpack Yoda.

An exhausted Luke pauses in his training, as Yoda talks about the nature of the Force and how easily its light side can turn to the dark.

More scene images and filming shots from the sequence, shot on 18th August, 1979, with additional material shot by the 28th that would showcase heavy on-set contributions from UK puppeteer Dave Barclay, taking over from Frank Oz as main puppeteer on selected days.

Two shot of the basic radio-operated Yoda.

With one of the puppet operated Yoda's for close-ups.

Frank Oz operates the Yoda puppet as Mark has fun with the company above.

A good humoured Hamill with Gary Kurtz.

Ron Hone and Puppeteer Dave Barclay stand ready to assist with Yoda.

Preparing to film the deleted scene where Yoda throws a bar for Luke to speedily cut up with his lightsaber, Hamill is assisted on set by Kurtz, Ron Hone and Dave Barclay.

The unseen bar Luke attempts to slice would have been added on by ILM had the shot been completed.
