Astride his faithful Tauntaun, the recently promoted Commander Luke Skywalker watches as a meteorite crash-lands on the snowy wastes of Hoth, in this unused stop motion image by Phil Tippett/ILM for The Empire Strikes Back.
Phil Tippett was unhappy with his original stop-motion work for the scene showing Luke and his Tauntaun as viewed on the plateau, and would ask an initially reluctant Lucas to give him a second crack at it that proved more successful for use in the finished film.
