AN 'EMPIRE' AT 40: COMMUNICATIONS ACCESS!

Lando is desperate to save the civilian workers of Cloud City from the Empire, and swiftly advises them all to leave the facility via intercom, whilst Artoo tries to open one of the platform doors to the Falcon.

Lando races to the platform shield door before it closes in an alternate/deleted scene...

... then keys in a security code now changed.

Alternate angle of Lando about to send a message to the occupants of Cloud City.

AN 'EMPIRE' AT 40: ACCESS DENIED!

Brave Artoo gets an unexpected jolt whilst accidently connecting to a power terminal, as our heroes escape attempts from Cloud City continue in this memorable scene for the droid that was originally script-conceived but unused for the original Star Wars in 1977.

Another selection of behind the scenes images from filming undertaken at Elstree during Summer 1979. Once again, the filmmakers manage to make ingenious use of the restricted amount of Bespin sets created via alternate angles and redressing.

Anthony Daniels suits-up for close-up shots of the damaged Threepio.

A deleted scene moment that made its way into an early teaser trailer.

AN 'EMPIRE' AT 40: LOBOT CAPTURED!

Presumably accessing the platform to the Millennium Falcon, Lobot, despite having prior avoided a squad of Imperial Stormtroopers, ultimately fails to anticipate their threatening presence elsewhere, soon apprehended once the platform door has opened, his final fate not known, in an ultimately deleted sequence that finally made it to the light of day on the saga Blu-ray box set release in 2011.

A Stormtrooper squad by the elevator area. This may also have been linked to a deleted scene as Leia and the others escape them in a separate lift.

Lobot hides as a squad rushes past.

Checking that the coast is clear...

... but ultimately captured and taken away.

AN 'EMPIRE' AT 40: SKILLED SHOOTING!

Pursued by Imperial Stormtroopers, our Rebel heroes make their way to an elevator, but not before Leia provides some effective covering fire!

This shot would also have a laser blast painted on it for publicity usage.

A sequence of our heroes trapped and having to escape the elevator to emergency stairs, in order to reach the Falcon platform, was planned for but ultimately scrapped due to lack of filming time, though not before a scene of Lando racing down stairs towards the closed platform doors had earlier been filmed (and can be seen in an earlier teaser trailer for Empire). That scene was ultimately scrapped and re-filmed with a revised corridor set.

The elevator area set and corridor.

THE CLONE WARS: STRENGTH IN NUMBERS...

Our Jedi heroes old and new, plus the battle-ready clone Captain Rex and a lieutenant, make for a heroic and physically powerful group pose in this very rare image composition poster used to promote the original theatrical release of the underappreciated and very enjoyable The Clone Wars movie of 2008.

AN 'EMPIRE' AT 40: DON'T LOOK DOWN!

Luke holds onto a nearby walkway handrail for dear life after being sucked out from the nearby window, then soon picks himself up, retrieving his nearby lightsaber (in a deleted moment).

AN 'EMPIRE' AT 40: BLOWN AWAY!

Resident Star Wars stuntman Colin Skeaping performs the scene where Luke goes flying out of the window, his gymnastics move through the window slowed down in post production amidst a blast of air and small bits of lightweight debris around him to simulate the release of air through the broken observation window.

AN 'EMPIRE' AT 40: FORCE WRECKER!

Preparing to film Vader's continued attack on Luke.

As Darth Vader continues to Force propels objects of all kinds at Luke Skywalker, one heavy projectile strikes the nearby circular viewport window, of which tornado air suction soon takes hold of Luke and sends him through it!

The projectile that goes through the window was a prop made from heavy wood shot from a canon-like device. Originally there was concern from Stunt Coordinator Peter Diamond that Mark Hamill, though not close to the window, might be hit by broken glass from the resultant smash. Fortunately a safety double would not be needed.

A moment as seen in one of the film's original 70mm frames.

Vader holds on as the air pressure plays havoc within the interior.

AN 'EMPIRE' AT 40: THE DARK LORD'S FURY!

Vader begins using the Force to haul objects of all sizes and weights as projectiles towards a soon overwhelmed Luke Skywalker, as seen in this great production painting art by Ralph McQuarrie.

AN 'EMPIRE' AT 40: LETHAL FLYING OBJECTS!

The lightsaber duel continues but Darth Vader soon uses the Force to constantly distract Luke with flying objects of various size and weight that hurt but not injure the young Jedi.

Irvin Kershner goes through some lightsaber move points with Hamill.

Peter Diamond and stage hand colleagues prepare to throw lightweight heavy objects at Mark Hamill from behind the camera.
