'STAR WARS' AT 40: "FEAR" - IN THE NAME OF THE EMPEROR

At last, the power and command of the Death Star has been achieved by the Grand Moff Tarkin, the man closest to controlling the fate of the peoples and planets of the Galactic Empire after Emperor Palpatine himself. Cruel, slyly clever and ambitious like no other in the Imperial Navy, such despicable, heartless villainy is rare and clearly been finely nurtured and cultivated by his leader.

ROGUE ONE: A RESURRECTION OF EVIL!

In interviews of the day, Peter Cushing expressed his regret that he wasn't able to come back as the evil Governor Tarkin for a STAR WARS sequel, after being blown up on the Death Star in 1977. Thankfully, due to the 2016 wonders of ILM's incredible, sometimes downright eerie CGI headed up by John Knoll, in combination with an excellent vocal and body language scanned performance captured on set via British actor Guy Henry, Cushing and Tarkin would make a superb and audience pleasing prequel appearance for the critical events of ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY.

I think Cushing would have approved of this film were it have been made in 1980 or 2016, so a big thank you to his dedicated estate in giving permission for his likeness to be used in such an effective and memorable way. Hollywood is both wary and fearful about the possibilities of other iconic actors being further resurrected after this and in remembering several other prior controversial examples of resurrected stars used in TV (HAWAII FIVE-O's Jack Lord) and commercials, but Tarkin was a very special and vital case with the pre-history storytelling linked into EPISODE IV, of which the on-screen results were first class.
