COMING SOON: 'STAR WARS: MAUL - SHADOW LORD'

The Clone Wars
Animated Series may be gone but its legacy lives on within numerous recent Dave Filoni overseen iterations. And now comes the eagerly anticipated Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord in 2026, as our favourite lethal and vindictive former Sith assassin turned ambitious crime lord, Darth Maul, finally gets his own well deserved showcase, voiced once more by Sam Witwer. The series is expected to lead-in to the history/events of Solo: A Star Wars Story and the villain's eventual demise in Rebels, as well as touching on themes created by the much-missed George Lucas for his sadly never made Episodes VII - IX, which featured the return of the Sith in a big way!

'THE CLONE WARS' - SALUTING JAMES ARNOLD TAYLOR - 'THE OTHER' OBI-WAN KENOBI!

Obi-Wan Kenobi debuts his new look for the opening season of The Clone Wars animated series.

Seventeen years on from his last onscreen performance as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Revenge of the Sith, Ewan McGregor returns to the iconic prequel era-launched role in the eagerly awaited titular series this Friday, 27th May on Disney+. This new six-episode adventure will obviously be spectacular and ultimately have a special place in fans' hearts worldwide. But let's not forget and applaud that other actor who has splendidly played/voiced the Jedi role in the realms of numerous Star Wars animation series and media spin-offs for the creatively inspired period in between McGregor's on screen portrayals: the consistently excellent actor James Arnold Taylor, who brought further nobility, heroism, drama, humour and pathos to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi especially during The Clone Wars animated series' acclaimed era.

His final animated visage getting closer to the events of Revenge of the Sith.

James Arnold Taylor and his animated alter-ego.

Star Wars Aficionado salutes you, Mister Taylor!

And long may you continue to voice/play in the George Lucas universe-created sandbox...

AFICIONADO REVIEW: 'STAR WARS REBELS - EPIC BATTLES' (BOOK)

The struggle for survival and rebellion, brought to life in STAR WARS REBELS: EPIC BATTLES. Images: DK BOOKS.

Our motley heroes leading a rebellious charge from their small sector of space in Lothal will soon look down into the darkest, deepest pool of hate and revenge when they encounter the fearsome Sith warrior, Darth Vader, as the all-new second season of Disney's hit animated adventure STAR WARS REBELS returns this October. And as we await the sounds of fury ahead- clashing lightsabers, screeching TIE fighters and zingingly connecting laser blasts- why not spend some quality catching up with the incredible conflicts, events, character meetings and alien environments uncovered within the first season of the acclaimed STAR WARS history-making series, as DORLING KINDERSLEY's info and picture-packed, all-new young readers edition Visual Guide, EPIC BATTLES, hits the book shops and online from 1st October, 2015.

A day in the life of Chopper the droid!
The mysteries of a long-abandoned Jedi Temple.

Going beyond the early minisodes and episodes covered in last year's opening series guidebook, EPIC BATTLES takes us up and away from the beleaguered Lothal, as our heroes lose some of the their early, erratic nature to become a firm fighting unit with the arrival of young Jedi-to-be Ezra Bridger, now being trained in the ways of the Force by his new mentor in Kanan Jarrus. Along the way, they'll fight the despicable and cruel servant of Vader, the corpse-faced Inquisitor and his unique mastery of a rotating lightsaber face, encounter mystery and enlightenment with the discovery of an old Jedi Temple and the vocal guidance of a certain frog-like wizard from far far away, make a fun alliance with that lovable rogue Lando Calrissian, have a memorable encounter with the always out of his depth C-3PO, once more partnered with the more rational and brave R2-D2, attempt to free a trapped Jedi from a seemingly escape-proof hellhole, and discover a new destiny and sense of unity joining forces with another section of the spirited, fledgling Rebel Alliance, along with the return of an old favourite from the modern animated STAR WARS universe, in their struggles against the cruel and despicable Grand Moff Tarkin, controller of the Outer Rim territories, above the deadly volcanic lava planet "where Jedi go to die": Mustafar!

Ahsoka lives!

Adam Bray, one of DK BOOKS finest STAR WARS historians, charts the adventures of the universe canon-concocted by the STAR WARS STORY GROUP with easy to read flair, giving us the lowdown on the many shocks and surprises (especially linked to young Ezra) now being revealed in the years set before A New Hope, whilst the selected imagery and inventive design work showcasing key action and story beats is as classy and gorgeous as ever.

The Empire's technological might strikes back!

But it isn't all just about Season One. There's a fine chunk of coverage for Season Two as well- its feature-length opener, The Siege of Lothal, with the return of the gracefully heroic, no longer undercover Ahsoka Tano, somehow survivor of the brutal ORDER 66, and the indomitable and foreboding Darth Vader- his unflinching, almost unstoppable attack on out heroes and their merging with the newly revealed rebel phalanx, being nicely represented, as is the first regular episode of the season after that- giving dedicated THE CLONE WARS fans more satisfaction with the return of the older but certainly not obsolete Captain Rex, alongside two of his equally cranky but cause renewed Clone Troopers, now living in deliberate isolation on the salty plains of Seelos. And if that wasn't enough, the book's chilling final spread gives us a fearsome up close and personal look at the next new formidable lightsaber-adept baddie bringing antagonism and danger to the REBELS universe: the Seventh Sister!

AFICIONADO RATING: The tension rises, the saga continues, with this super second book- colourful, striking and fun- just as the weekly series is to so many fans. 8 out of 10

THE CLONE WARS: THE HIDDEN ENEMY

On Kamino, Master Shaak Ti confers with alien leader Lama Su on the emerging problem linked to Clone Trooper Tup's unexpected, murderous slaying of a Jedi Knight. THE CLONE WARS: WHAT WOULD ANAKIN SAY?!

Back during World War II, the American flying pilot heroes had sex siren Betty Grable as their icon painted on their planes as they went into life or death battles. And in the universe of the Clone Wars, one group of irregular helmeted Republic heroes have their deserved new pin-up in that equally sexy champion of justice: Padme Amidala. Let's just hope Anakin doesn't see it! Oh, too late!

A piece of previously unseen concept art for the sadly never fully competed "Batch Batch" story arc from THE CLONE WARS, revealed by Dave Filoni at a special panel and screening at CELEBRATION ANAHEIM 2015.

'THE CLONE WARS LEGACY' ARRIVES ON STARWARS.COM

Before the debut of the all-new REBELS next week, and in a welcome gesture to the devoted worldwide fanbase previously established for the milestone animated series that was George Lucas's THE CLONE WARS, stopped far too short of its planed eight-year run, LUCASFILM have released onto their official STARWARS.COM site the storyreel animatics for a never before seen four-part adventure from Season Six/Seven - Crystal Crisis on Utapau, set after the departure of Ahsoka Tano and before the events of EPISODE III (featuring a petulant but heroic Anakin Skywalker once more paired with Obi-Wan Kenobi), alongside an introduction from Producer/Animation Director Dave Filoni, plus a look at THE CLONE WARS present and future in book and comic book form, and previously unseen concept art.

Hopefully it won't be too long now before UK and European viewers also, finally, get news on a LOST MISSIONS Blu-ray/DVD release date from DISNEY. And as to what we could see next from the series? Well, what about that Cad Bane/Boba Fett arc? And, if Season Seven and Eight were voice recorded with the cast (Season Six was apparently written as far back as 2011/2012), why not adapt them into audio dramas?

STAR WARS REBELS: PAYBACK TIME!

They've taken quite a bashing in seventeen years- their ecologically symbiotic world of Kashyyyk has suffered unnatural damage and numerous attacks from bounty hunters and Stormtroopers, whilst large families have been separated and put into vicious hardship and life-draining slavery. But now, within the harsh environs of the Kessel spice mines, a small group of Wookiees are free of their bonds to bring some physical chaos and punishment to their Imperial enslavers. Witness the revolt in an upcoming episode of STAR WARS REBELS this October.
