BEHIND THE SCENES: SHOOTING JAWAS!

At the Salt Flats location in Tunisia, the original Star Wars lensman John Jay captures the main group of Jawas by their Sandcrawler in between takes for this great image, which was apparently one of Jay's favourites taken for the movie way back in Spring, 1976.

CLASSIC IMAGE: FAST ESCAPE!

The time is now for Han Solo and Chewbacca, inside one of the main forward hangars, to join Luke and Leia in boarding the grounded Falcon and finally escape the Death Star. But at what cost have the nearby Stormtroopers been distracted from guarding the pirate ship?

A classic moment superbly captured by the original Star Wars lensman John Jay, as seen in The Making of Star Wars TV documentary of 1977.

BEHIND THE SCENES: THE FANTASY LENS-MAN

On an unnaturally cold Tunisian day in March 1976, STAR WARS stills photographer John Jay fights against a mild sandstorm breeze in order to get an iconic publicity image, whilst George Lucas and the rest of the goggled crew prepare to film a scene.

To find out more about veteran photographer Jay and the other photographers who worked on the original classic film, check out our exclusive AFICIONADO PDF article, The Unsung Photographers of STAR WARS:

CLASSIC IMAGE: THE SEARCH BEGINS...

Imperial Sandtroopers, with a far distant Patrol Dewback (a huge specially built prop with limited movement rather than the 1997 SPECIAL EDITION CGI creature), search for their new quarry: droids, in this slightly different image by photographer John Jay for the original STAR WARS taken on location in the deserts of Tunisia.
