EPISODE IX: THE ALTERNATE ADVENTURE!

On the streets of the First Order controlled capital city of Coruscant, Finn leads a revolution against the evil oppressors and their legions of Stormtroopers, with the help of loyal friend Rose Tico, defector Stormtroopers and an assortment of droids, towards the spectacular end of what might have been Episode IX: the abandoned Colin Trevorrow vision that was Duel of the Fates, as seen in this intriguing concept work.

Leading the charge!

EPISODE IX: THE NEW REBELLION!

The new Rebellion gathers.

Barely escaped from Crait, what's left of the Resistance regroups inside the main deck of the Millennium Falcon. Though Rey, more powerful in the Force than ever, is unsure of their next steps against the controlling First Order, a wise Leia Organa knows that, thanks to Luke Skywalker, her brother, the fire of Rebellion has been restarted.

Hope now exists beyond Luke's broken lightsaber. Art by Brian Rood.

Writer/director Rian Johnson ends The Last Jedi on a strong and confident note, passing the storytelling finale torch back to J.J. Abrams, of which EPISODE IX starts shooting this month (July 2018). Though she passed on the mantle of leadership to others onscreen with VIII, here's hoping that the late Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa is worked into the film somehow, somewhere, via some alternate unused footage and outtake dialogue by J.J. Abrams and despite prior made comments from Lucasfilm two years ago.

EPISODE VIII: 'EMPIRE' MAGAZINE's 'THE LAST JEDI' COVERAGE...

I remember when EMPIRE film magazine originally started back in 1988/89 and there was zero coverage of any aspects of the STAR WARS saga, back in those lonely wilderness days when the franchise was stuck in the land of Force limbo. Fortunately, things have changed a lot since then, better and better, as seen with the magazine's continuing dedicated, expansive celebrations for the upcoming The Last Jedi. No doubt their regular STAR WARS related content writer Ian Freer's typing hands have been uber-busy!

Online coverage:

Sadly, the troubled development of the in-pre-production EPISODE IX has been hit with more problems:

ILM CLASSIC IMAGE: WITH MIRTH AND MONSTERS!

How to train your Rancor, the Muren/Tippett method!

True special effects wizards Dennis Muren and Phil Tippett congratulate an old friend on its successfully completing its filming at the ILM facility in San Francisco for RETURN OF THE JEDI. Still vital players in the field of visual effects in all areas, Muren would also go onto contribute greatly on the later STAR WARS Prequels for George Lucas, whilst Tippett would launch his own incredible CGI and puppet/stop motion facility, which particularly came to the fore with the under appreciated cult classic STARSHIP TROOPERS and the realisation of the legendary Velociraptor creatures showcased in the original, ground-breaking JURASSIC PARK.

Which one's first on this raptor's menu?! Image: UNIVERSAL PICTURES.

Tippett continued to be an adviser on JP's subsequent sequels, especially for the recent franchise re-launched, world box-office juggernaut JURASSIC WORLD (out now on Blu-ray and DVD from UNIVERSAL HOME ENTERTAINMENT), pictured above with future STAR WARS EPISODE IX director Colin Trevorrow and a certain carnivorous raptor, but there's also been a much welcome return to the STAR WARS universe with the upcoming THE FORCE AWAKENS, believed to have created an all-new alien holo-chess sequence set aboard the Millennium Falcon, reminiscent to the one he and buddy Jon Berg conceived and manipulated back in 1977!

EPISODE VIII: HAN SOLO RETURNS!

Still "home" for EPISODE VIII: Han Solo and Chewbacca!

UPDATE: Looks like the EPISODE VIII casting call sheet is apparently a fake (according to many people) and has been discussed on several prominent fan forums. Han will probably be dead for Xmas after all, unless there's a sudden change! Thanks to reader "Dennis" for the message.

Casting call for 'Star Wars: Episode VIII' lead role | Disney Casting CallsDisney Casting Calls

Casting has begun on the next phase of the STAR WARS Sequels, with Rian Johnson writing and directing EPISODE VIII, and the big search underway for a new young leading lady (presumably a potential love interest for John Boyega's Finn?) to join our heroes. As well as Boyega, the return of Oscar Isaac and Daisy Ridley were a dead cert. But this DISNEY casting call info has given us the news that Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher will also be returning in some capacity, too. Even more surprisingly, though, the dreaded rumours that have been circulating these past 18 months of Harrison Ford's Han Solo being killed off look set to be quashed, at least for the time being (and unless this is part of a smoke screen of disinformation linked to VII), with his involvement in VIII. Perhaps Ford, seemingly impressed by what was happening with VII, decided to stick around after all. Intriguingly, the next film is being made in association and producer-ship with Lawrence Kasdan and his company, which is just as cool- so even more involvement from the Classic Trilogy's finest screenplay writer.

Having been rumoured to be playing a baddie since EPISODE II, we have further great news that Benecio Del Toro, who I've been impressed with as an actor ever since his early days as a James Bond villain, will be added to the mix, presumably another one of those fearsome Knights of Ren?

And finally, the release date is music to my ears: back to May, where it's always felt just right!

EPISODE VII: THE RETURN OF DREW STRUZAN!

The new poster for THE FORCE AWAKENS, revealed at the DISNEY 23 EXPO in California.

There might not be any more new footage for the movie yet, but that doesn't mean that other areas of THE FORCE AWAKENS publicity can't be explored in the meantime, like this lovely new teaser poster for attendees of the DISNEY 23 EXPO, courtesy of the legendary talents of movie poster icon/artist Drew Struzan, clearly out of retirement for this very special piece unveiled today (15th August, 2015) States-side.

Thanks for coming back, Drew!
