A CORELLIAN AND A WOOKIEE - FRIENDS TO THE END....

You couldn't get two more loyal to each other friends than the trouble-finding smuggling buddies that are Han Solo and his wookiee compadre Chewbacca. They are potentially in it up their necks with the crime lord Jabba the Hutt by the time of the original Star Wars, but a nice easy charter, and big payment, with a strange old hermit and a callow youth bodes well for their future...

Some nice posed images of Han Solo and Harrison Ford taken during filming in London for the original movie back in mid 1976. The photographer for this memorable shoot is most likely Brit talent David Steen.

"I thought it was a real good part - the character (of Han Solo) was humorous and I thought those things in the script that weren't exactly funny probably would be - I thought it was going to be funny. I didn't think it would have such a wide audience. It was just a good part for me!"

Harrison Ford - Bantha Tracks - 1980

"In the tests, he (Chewbacca) looked like a folding chair. At Elstree I just made it a pet relationship. "Look, I've got this huge dog."

Harrison Ford - Film Review magazine Star Wars special - 1997

"He's like a big dog, a dog that's ferocious one moment, and whimperingly docile the next. The character comes off as sweet and charming as the person who was inside him. He (Peter Mayhew) really got into the film. By the end of the picture he was very good."

Harrison Ford - Science Fantasy Film Classics magazine - 1977

"Harrison and I worked well together. He is a wonderful person and a terrific actor; truly professional."

Peter Mayhew - interview quote (unknown source)

BEHIND THE SCENES: BEFORE THEY WERE FAMOUS!

They were the fresh and bright young stars of tomorrow embarking on an epic filmic journey above and beyond the release of the original Star Wars- Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.

Enjoy a lovely London-based photo shoot session from 1976, presumably taken by either David Steen or Terry O'Neill, of our favourite actors/icons having fun and enjoying each other's company, with genuine superstardom for them merely a year away...

'STAR WARS' AT 40: THE ETERNAL HEROES!

Another one of the all-time classic STAR WARS poster greats. Who didn't have this on their bedroom wall during 1977/78, either next to Farrah Fawcett-Majors or the stars of Grease- our four incredible galactic heroes assembled in an image by David Steen, used by the Scandicor poster company.

'STAR WARS' AT 40: A SINGULAR PRINCESS!

She was truly a vision of beauty at the end of the original STAR WARS medal ceremony, certainly a fantasy Princess to quicken any hero's pace to receive a medal from, and yet Carrie Fisher still had inner demons about her acting ability, youthful physical looks and weight issues during this early May 1976 filming at Shepperton Studios, as well as her lovely posed publicity imagery linked to that scene, captured by top UK photographer David Steen. The shooting script described Leia as "staggeringly beautiful", and yet Fisher, ever the humorist, couldn't resist altering her filming copy to say "staggered beautifully", instead!

The classic ceremonial costume.

Lovely photo shoot used in magazine editorials worldwide. Images by David Steen.

CLASSIC IMAGE: STAR WARRIORS!

Taking place on Tuesday 1st June, 1976, one of British photographer David Steen's great four cast posed studio images of our classic, iconic heroes from the original STAR WARS, the movie that started it all, which showed yesterday afternoon on ITV 1 HD in the UK and looked great, even in pan and scan.
