'THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT': ESCAPING THE SARLAAC!

It was the post Return of the Jedi scene we'd always dreamt about and wanted to see made a visual reality (especially also having seen it prior tantalizingly illustrated in Marvel Comics back in 1984), of the once formidable and notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett reasserting himself mentally and physically in resisting the immense pull of the dreaded, life-draining Sarlaac Pit, and ultimately escape to the freedom of the punishing Tatooine desert.

The scene as memorably captured by Star Wars Galaxy's trading card series.

Thank you, Dave Filoni, Robert Rodriguez and Jon Favreau for making the moment a reality in the now infamous and classic scene from The Book of Boba Fett., as seen exclusively on Disney+.

CLASSIC ART: THE GUARDIANS OF GOOD...

The heroes and masters of the 'light side' of the Force stand proud in this lovely art (by Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti) for the once Star Wars Galaxy magazine of the late nineties, a beloved nostalgic title still superior in art, contents and variety to pretty much anything currently being done in today's rather lacklustre official title, Star Wars Insider.

CLASSIC ART: MACHINE VERSUS EWOK!

A brave Ewok flees pursuit from two lethal blaster cannon wielding AT-ST 'Chicken' Walkers in this great concept art by Joe Johnston for Return of the Jedi circa 1981, where the brave furry heroes of the Endor forest moon were finally visually locked into as being Teddy Bear-like creatures. But Teddy Bears who could formidably crack Imperial Stormtrooper skulls open when they needed to!

Their popularity may have changed with the seasons across 35 years but Star Wars legendary composer John Williams and The London Symphony Orchestra gave the little critters a suitably grand, lovably rumbustious and inspiring main theme in Parade of the Ewoks, one of the main tracks of the original 1983 soundtrack album for Return of the Jedi that's now getting a well deserved remastering and re-release via Walt Disney Records, along with the rest of the Classic and Prequel Trilogies. Each CD comes at a nice price, and with a collectible mini-poster.

'SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE' AT 20: IN XIZOR'S DOMAIN!

On a mission to discover the truth about the murder attempts on Luke Skywalker, and to see if Prince Xizor's offer to join the Rebel cause is truly genuine, Princess Leia Organa, in her pre-ROTJ Boushh disguise, gets more than she bargained for in her first encounter with the Falleen overlord, in this great art by Hugh Fleming for the popular STAR WARS GALAXY magazine Issue 7, Spring 1996, specially promoting the SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE multi-media experience.

'SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE' AT 20: BALANCE OF POWER!

The galaxy stands at a crossroads as the forces of good and evil prepare to clash anew- a Dark Lord seeks to find his son, as a vicious crime lord rival waits in the wings planning to eliminate them both, whilst a desperate Princess searches for her carbon frozen lover. The epic saga of SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE continues its multi-media dominance of 1996 with the 100 card TOPPS set featuring all-new art from the legendary Hildebrandt Brothers, a compilation of their fine work immortalized in this sneak-peak advert from the then STAR WARS GALAXY magazine.

CLASSIC ART: BROTHERHOOD OF THE FORCE!

Our favourite family heroes and villains pose, lightsabers ready, against the backdrop of intergalactic war and emerging tech firepower, in this fine saga bridging art by Matt Busch for a STAR WARS GALAXY card series from a few years back.

CLASSIC ART: IN THE HAND OF THE DARK SIDE!

Jack Kirby, the legendary visual co-creator of the incredible MARVEL COMICS universe, alongside that other icon in super-scribe Stan Lee, gave us so much incredible action, heroism and scary villainy across hundreds of colourful comic issues, capturing readers imaginations so fiercely, so the artist must surely have felt quite at home penning this sadly one-time-only piece of STAR WARS art, featuring the incredible galaxy-spanning conflict between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader (who was very much the Doctor Doom-esque villain of this particular franchise, in so many ways).

This great 1994 composition is one of the many fine pieces reproduced this March 15th, 2016, with the release of the next chapter in the ABRAMS book series chronicling the superb STAR WARS TOPPS photo card sets that would become so cherished: this time focusing on the diverse art magically brought to life for its three-year spanning STAR WARS GALAXY, in a lovely, right-size hardback once more compiled and charted by the enthusiastic original editor and writer for the linage: Gary Gerani.

Here's the book press release notes:

Ten years after the release of Return of the Jedi, the Topps Company reintroduced the Star Wars universe to collectors with a series of trading cards. Illustrated by the biggest names in science fiction, fantasy, and comics—including Kyle Baker, Moebius, Jon J Muth, William Stout, and Walter Simonson—George Lucas’s galaxy is reinterpreted in each artist’s style, portraying favorite characters, re-creating classic moments, and even inventing new scenes the illustrators always wanted to see. These trading-card images became instant fan favorites and the benchmark for visual reinterpretations of Star Wars to come. For the first time, this collection showcases the complete New Visions series; rare promotional images; an introduction and commentary by Gary Gerani; and an afterword by Drew Struzan, and cover art by Joseph Smith.

Featuring over 170 artists including Michael Allred, Sergro Aragonés, Simon Bisley, John Bolton, Bret Blevins, Timothy Bradstreet, Dan Brereton, June Brigman, J. Scott Campbell, Paul Chadwick, Howard Chaykin, Mark Chiarello, Gene Colan, Amanda Conner, Geof Darrow, Jack Davis, Steve Ditko, Colleen Doran, Dave Dorman, Steve Fastner, Bob Fingerman, Frank Kelly Freas, Rick Geary, Dave Gibbons, Keith Giffen, Jean "Moebius" Giraud, Mike Grell, Scott Hampton, Jeffrey Jones, Kelley Jones, Michael Kaluta, Gil Kane, Cam Kennedy, Karl Kesel, Sam Kieth, Jack Kirby, Ray Lago, Rich Larson, Jae Lee, John Paul Leon, Esteban Maroto, Michael Mignola, Ralph McQuarrie, Linda Medley, C. CLASSIC ART: DAGOBAH DRAMATIS!

Fans who originally felt short changed by the all too brief final confrontation between Han Solo and his once captor in bounty hunter Boba Fett, over the Sarlaac Pit during RETURN OF THE JEDI, could at least find later consolation, enjoyment and action possibilities within this striking image set on the swamp world of Dagobah, depicting an alternate but no less exciting conflict between these two opposing shades of grey. Bo Hampton's evocative image became a firm favourite for the classic 1993 STAR WARS GALAXY card series from TOPPS, which adapted the now iconic Boba Fett on reptile beast from The Holiday Special - this version of the Mandalorian-armoured antagonist in his original concept/test suit whites, whilst Han retained his familiar outfit worn during the original STAR WARS.

CLASSIC ART: A FIGHT TO THE DEATH!

In an early script and James Kahn's novelisation for RETURN OF THE JEDI, that gross slug Jabba the Hutt tells Luke Skywalker of its time spent slaying Jedi Knights in days gone by. It was a dialogue line cut from the finished film, but that didn't stop this unknown artist from giving us their exciting idea of what that era of Jedi versus Hutt might have been like, for a card that, due to LUCASFILM's then stringent policy of not treading on the Prequel era being worked out by George Lucas, never ultimately made it to the first STAR WARS GALAXY set series back in 1995. Its interesting that the Jedi shown here wear similar black outfits similar to the ones conceived early on by Doug Chiang on for EPISODE I, whilst the combative Hutt collects lightsabers as trophies the way General Grievous would later do.

CLASSIC ART: CUSTODIAN OF HOPE!

A lovely, ultimately unused piece of art for the STAR WARS GALAXY card series from 1995, featuring a young Sir Alec Guinness as Ben Kenobi cradling the newly born Luke Skywalker. The image (artist unknown- Ngwian?) was withdrawn by LUCASFILM at the time as the Prequel universe saga history and continuity was then still being mapped out, what with George Lucas's return to his film universe- the era becoming pretty much declared off limits to other writers and artists, bar the occasional mention of The Clone Wars.

CLASSIC ART: AN 'EMPIRE' TIGHTENS ITS GRIP!

An atmospheric piece of Japanese poster concept artwork (we assume) representing the main players of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, courtesy of Noriyoshi Ohrai, and which, as far as I'm aware, first made an appearance via the STAR WARS GALAXY card series a few years back.
