CLASSIC INDY: NIGHT-TIME SCARES!

The jungle at night can be a weird and dangerous place, as out of place showgirl and musician Willie Scott soon discovers in a fun comedy sequence for Kate Capshaw and her fellow Indiana Jones stars, before the darkness of Mola Ram emerges, from 1984's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. 

CLASSIC INDY: INDY THE LIBERATOR!

It's been a death-defying (literally!) adventure for Indiana Jones and his weary travelling companion Willie Scott, but the smiling faces of the liberated Indian slave children running towards their loving parents more than makes up for their past harrowing troubles, in this memorable finale to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

CLASSIC INDY: THE FLIGHT FROM CLUB OBI-WAN!

She's burnt two fingers and she's cracked a nail! No, cabaret entertainer and actress Willie Scott, always on the lookout for a great lifestyle, is not used to being threatened, shot at and carried along/hurled out a multi-storey building window, as her unique entrance into the mad, crazy, dangerous world of Indiana Jones begins, in this great image from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Though a controversial character with critics and feminists at the time of original release, especially in contrast to the previous film's strong-willed Marion Ravenwood, Willie Scott has become more appreciated over time, thanks to the witty repartee she/actress Kate Capshaw shared with Harrison Ford as Indy, in dialogue generated by the classic film loving, talented script writing husband/wife duo Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz. Always enthusiastic and a great behind the scenes raconteur, AFICIONADO was sorry to hear of Miss Katz's passing back in 2018.

CLASSIC INDY: ROPE BRIDGE TERROR!

Willie Scott and Short Round are in the biggest fix yet by the conclusion of THE TEMPLE OF DOOM- the latter has tried to convince the former that the rope bridge they need to cross for escape is perfectly safe. Wrong!

Rounding off 2014's landmark celebration of 30 classic and inspiring years of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is this lovely cover, by Jackson "Butch" Guice, to the film's compiled comic adaptation, as part of the Marvel Super Special series of 1984. I personally had never seen this particular art piece before, so I thought it was worthy of posting.

Eventual Mrs Spielberg Kate Capshaw rehearses the classic comedy moment where Willie tries to recover a unique diamond, only to lose it, firstly kicked around, then buried within a floored pile of ice, during the film's incident-packed opening sequence.

From Indy's Journal: It was all going so well, then I woke up and found that the pilots of the plane had abandoned us, we're flying on dry vapours and out of control above the alps, that the screaming nightclub singer's still screaming, and Shorty's trying to find our stuff!

Another intriguing marketing piece for TEMPLE OF DOOM- the Japanese potpourri poster for the film's 1984 release, primarily focusing on the scary elements of the Thuggee cult's underground lair at the top, with Indy (whom they like to see without his famous hat!) and Willie underneath, and the classic finale rope bridge scene also included.

Yep, she's screaming again! 

Poor Willie- former Shanghai hostess, singer and mixer with the elite, in constant trouble once she's forced into following Indiana Jones out the window of Club Obi-Wan! And even worse, she's now covered in bugs!

Its a rough ride ahead for Willie and Short Round, as Indy perilously navigates their mine car through a whole cave load of adrenaline charged action scares, in this great image from INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM.

Finally, a chance for some respite for our hero Indiana Jones, partner in adventure Short Round and unwilling traveller, the entertainer Willie Scott, having successfully freed an army of slaves from the Thuggee Cult- a glorious end to the thrill-a-minute antics within The Temple of Doom.

CLASSIC INDY: 'THE TEMPLE OF DOOM' HITS 30!

Hard to believe, but its the 30th Anniversary of a certain fortune and glory seeking archeologist's entering that nightmare labyrinth The Temple of Doom this May. Controversial with the film-makers and the public at the time of release due to its violence and often grim subject matter, I've always thought it was a terrific and very satisfying sequel- regardless of the criticisms.

Being the first sequel for Indiana Jones, though actually set before the events of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, TEMPLE OF DOOM proved that our intrepid hero was here to stay with audiences, featuring lots of ambitious sequences that the film-makers originally planned to used for the first film but had to cut out for various reasons.
