CLASSIC STRUZAN: REVEALING 'THE FORCE AWAKENS'...

Any Star Wars art from the legendary Drew Struzan is a welcome visual treat, and even better when its a piece rarely seen, like this great 'B/W comprehensive' showcasing the heroes and villains of The Force Awakens, which recently appeared on the artist's FB page.

'VADER WEEK': DAY 5 - FAMILIAL COMBAT!

With the now confirmed revelation that Darth Vader was once his father: Anakin Skywalker, Luke has come to terms with the fact, despite it nearly destroying him psychologically and physically during The Empire Strikes Back. Knowing that there may yet still be some kind of good present in such a dark soul, the young Jedi is determined to free his father from the grip of the Emperor/Darth Sidious, even if it means the cost of his own life.

The core dramatic and emotional struggle linked to Vader, as well as the superb father/son lightsaber duel rematch ahead between him and Luke, make for exciting elements in Drew Struzan's now classic teaser poster for Return of the Jedi, released in late 1982, of which the above image is a concept piece.

CLASSIC STRUZAN: THE FORCE CONNECTION!

Image: Drew Struzan/Facebook.

Who can forget the excitement and anticipation for the return of the Star Wars saga with The Force Awakens during 2015. Iconic artist Drew Struzan's return to the saga for official commission work was certainly one of the showcase memories from that terrific time.

CLASSIC ART: THE LOOK OF (HIDDEN) LOVE

Natalie Portman's beauty shines once again through the iconic art of Drew Struzan, capturing her likeness from EPISODE II wearing that memorable lace and leather outfit for Padme Amidala, designed by George Lucas especially for the secret love declaration scene from Anakin Skywalker towards her at the Lake Varykino safe house.

CLASSIC STRUZAN: 'QUEEN OF THE EMPIRE'!

That infamous icon from the Earth's Amazonian depths, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, makes an impressive entrance as an all-new alien for the STAR WARS universe, in this gorgeous art by Drew Struzan for the 1993 Expanded Universe novel by Paul Davids and Hollace Davids: Queen of the Empire, part of the Jedi Prince series that I'll really have to find and catch up on one day.

CLASSIC STRUZAN: 'THE CRYSTAL STAR'

Luke Skywalker is front and centre of the action in Drew Struzan's exciting cover for Vonda N. McIntyre's 1994 Expanded Universe hardback tale, The Crystal Star. And let's face it, the cover really was the most popular thing about a book that quickly and sharply divided fandom on its original release twenty years ago. I personally found it a chore to read- a shame as McIntyre is a solid author- with characterisations for our core heroes that felt way off base in most respects.

CLASSIC STRUZAN: TO CAPTURE A HEROINE!

Another wonderful and evocative piece of art from Drew Struzan for the STAR WARS Saga- I'm assuming a private commission- showcasing the beauty and inner strength of Prequel Trilogy heroine Senator Padme Amidala, as personified by Natalie Portman, for EPISODE II.

Struzan's recent movie poster art/autobiographical film, Drew: The Man Behind the Poster, is now available on DVD. Find out more about the acclaimed project, and the versatile talent, here: Drew: The Man Behind The Poster

CLASSIC STRUZAN: TO USE THE FORCE...

I hadn't previously seen this lovely STAR WARS image by artist extraordinaire Drew Struzan-I'm assuming it was originally a private commission- but it's so lovely I had to post it, so visually perfect in summing up the building relationship between Master and Pupil, Yoda and Luke Skywalker, from THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.

Drew Struzan remains the quintessential, classic movie poster artist-the get-go man representing and creating the very best in well-crafted, iconic and beloved blockbuster evocation. Start feeling nostalgia and awe all over again by checking out this lovely trailer for the movie documentary of his poster illustrating career (with contributing admirers including the likes of Spielberg, Lucas and Guillermo Del Toro): Drew: The Man Behind The Poster ***OFFICIAL TRAILER*** - YouTube
