CLASSIC ART: THE WEEKLY ADVENTURES CONTINUE...

Our heroes assemble for the climactic action/adventure chapter of the Original Trilogy, as the dominant evil of Darth Vader looms large, in this lovely art I hadn't previously seen before that graced one of the later issues of the MARVEL UK's Return of the Jedi weekly comic back in May 1985, before the saga went fully into limbo. If anyone knows the artist/s of the piece, please let me know, though I suspect Tom Palmer's work on the faces of Lando and Chewbacca.

And does anyone out there still have the free Ewok transfers?

Terrifying words for our heroes as the final stages of the evacuation of Echo Base continue, and the death-bringing forces of Darth Vader arrive, in this great cover art by comics legend Carmine Infantino exclusively created for the UK's The Empire Strikes Back Weekly comic, published in June 1980.

He's fought all manner of dark and disturbing foes since joining the Rebel Alliance, but Jedi-to-be Luke Skywalker is almost felled by the evil powers emanating from the most weirdly unusual of alien/droid hybrids - Reist - in the obscure and twistedly nasty little horror gem from September 1981 written by then rising star UK comics talent Alan Moore- the bizarre yet original Death Masque for the original The Empire Strikes Back Monthly comic magazine- a story that never appeared in any US Marvel comics until 2013, and a perfect tale to consume during Halloween!

'STAR WARS' AT 40: 'THE DEATH-STATION OF DARTH VADER!'

It's a wonderful fusion of Classic MARVEL'S larger than life visual excitement of the seventies mixed with the ambitious, beyond its time cinematic storytelling of the original STAR WARS, as the cover of the UK's STAR WARS WEEKLY issue II (from 1978) shows us a defiant Darth Vader, lightsaber raised to the enemy forces, realizing what a threat these seemingly puny and small fighters actually are to the Death Star, that there is some ultimate purpose to the enemies attack on the surface, and soon issuing orders that the TIE fighter crews are dispatched for engagement.

I think it's unlikely that series art starter Howard Chaykin did the cover for the weekly- it doesn't look his style, and his work Stateside for MARVEL on the comic was likely nearing its end. If anyone knows the artist please get in touch.Tony Dezuniga, perhaps?

'STAR WARS' AT 40: WHEN SANDPEOPLE ATTACK!

Artoo has finally been found and his Tatooine walkabout temporarily ceased, but Luke Skywalker's curiosity about some nearby nomadic Sandpeople gets the worst of him, as the creatures make a vicious surprise attack on both Luke and a shocked Threepio- a scene well depicted on the cover of the second issue of the UK's STAR WARS WEEKLY comic, from February 1978.
