"HEAR ME BABY, HOLD TOGETHER..."
Han Solo mans the gun turret in one of the great promotional adverts by LUCASFILM/FOX for the then upcoming 1997 box set of the CLASSIC STAR WARS TRILOGY VHS release-with an Executor tin box set released in the UK that, generally, had much better behind the scenes material and accompanying extras than the eventual Blu-rays, which has still not been surpassed.
With thanks to Ian Trussler for the image.
ILM CLASSIC IMAGE: OUT OF CONTROL
Darth Vader's TIE fighter death squadron get a nasty surprise as they corner Luke Skywalker's X-wing fighter in the Death Star trench: Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon make a triumphant return to aid their friend in the crisis, as one fighter is destroyed, the other rams into the wing of Vader's personal ship (sending it spinning out of control and into the depths of space) then crashes at speed into the canyon wall.
Originally, Vader's craft was to have perished as well, but, quite late in the editing post production phase, and against the advice of some of his ILM colleagues who'd think the move was too sequel gimmicky, George Lucas instinctively decides to spare the Dark Lord (especially if a sequel, then potentially Splinter of the Mind's Eye, might be made) and have his damaged TIE relentlessly spin out into space, using newly shot model footage alongside existing outtake cockpit footage of Vader that is spun around to simulate his being inside the out-of-control fighter.
CLASSIC INDY: BIG MOUTH!
On location for the famous rope bridge action finale of INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM in Sri Lanka in 1983, Harrison Ford has some swordplay fun with the rest of the crew between takes.

BEHIND THE SCENES: THE FALCON'S NEW DESTINATION
Within the Rebel Hangar base interior now disassembled on the then new STAR WARS STAGE at Elstree Studios in July 1979, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK director Irvin Kershner, atop a ladder, checks the available shooting angles, and takes camera reference shots, showing the specially built Millennium Falcon prop on the in-construction landing pad at Bespin (note Production Designer Norman Reynolds occupied with work below Kershner), as the movie's arduous shooting nears its final third.
This image is part of a BBC WALES tribute to STAR WARS 35th Anniversary, and the connections that this part of Great Britain had with the Classic Trilogy film-making during the eighties. Head over to the link here for more: BBC News - In pictures: the secret links between Star Wars and Wales
Thanks to the JEDI NEWS website for the heads up on this.
STAR WARS AT 35: DELETED DROID SEARCH
Imperial Stormtroopers continue their relentless search through the Mos Eisley streets for the fugitive droids holding the Death Star plans, in this deleted scene moment recently shown on the STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE SAGA Blu-ray. Another part of this footage, featuring "Little Flash Gordon", would appear in the infamous STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL of 1978.
