One of the great international posters for the original theatrical release of JAWS in the seventies. The iconic film is coming to UK Blu-ray in September. Images: UNIVERSAL. |
Having had a small but successful UK theatrical reissue via the EMPIRE cinema chain this past June, it's time for the grand-daddy of all Summer Blockbuster movies-or should that be the greatest of Great White's-to be unleashed in all its restored glory on special edition Blu-ray. Yes, we're talking about Steven Spielberg's triumphant shark terrorises Amity Island epic JAWS-that little 1975 film that gripped generations of holiday swimmers across the world and made them forever nervy about going into the deep blue sea. Beyond it's titular star, seen only in rare suspenseful moments, the enduring and beautifully crafted film made it's writer/creator Peter Benchley a household name, sent Spielberg into the directing stratosphere for his talents with actors and his ability to deliver genuine storytelling and suspense, and cemented the star reputations of leads Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, and last, but certainly not least, Robert Shaw, in a commanding and all-consuming presence as the obsessed shark killer, Quint.

There's also a great official FACEBOOK page celebrating the film, its stars, and its incredible iconic status: Jaws
Look for the film in the UK from September, and, to re-phrase a famous Chief Brody line: You're gonna need a bigger Blu-ray player!
Now, start humming that irresistible John Williams theme...
