BEHIND THE SCENES: "SANDPEOPLE...OR WORSE!"
Tunisia: March 1976. After a prior rehearsal at the site on the 24th, a maskless Peter Diamond stands ready as a fierce Tusken Raider, about to bear down on Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker. Note the also maskless Anthony Daniels behind them as Threepio, not wearing his golden face as the scenes direction only requires a portion of his droid costume to be seen in visual frame. Threepio's fall from the surprise attack would be handled by another member of the crew, so far unidentified, or possibly location stand-in for Daniels. Eric Dechaux.
In a late1976 US convention interview, Hamill joked that his back was raw for nearly three days from the stuntwork, and that Diamond, in his restrictive mask, accidentally kept stepping on him!
