In the nighttime of Coruscant, the Republic civilisation is unaware of the evil machinations being planned against it- the deadly revenge-fuelled, power-mad sect of The Sith is now re-emergent, ready to make its bid for power and control across the galaxy and target the Jedi protecting Queen Amidala. Darth Maul's scenes with his master, Darth Sidious, were the first shot for EPISODE I at Leavesden Studios in 1997.
"I was lucky to be involved on the first day of shooting and the last. When we decided to go for the first one after all those years, it was quite an emotional moment. There was a degree of anticipation and tension inevitably on set. The air was full of a kind of expectancy, and we were all nervous. This was, after all, a historic moment."

An extra line from Darth Sidious to Maul was filmed but lost in the final cut:
"It is too late for them to stop us now. Everything is going as planned. The Republic will soon be in my control."

Though Ray Park spoke the small amount of dialogue created for Maul on set, the character's smoothly villainous voice was ultimately replaced over Park's in post production by talented British voiceover artist and actor/comedian Peter Serafinowicz.

Also present and filmed as background presence, but ultimately cut, was some kind of Sith protocol droid servant, likely played by John Fensom.
