Before Luke's incredulous eyes, Yoda uses his abilities in the Force to life the X-wing fighter from the swampy lake and bring it to shore, in a classic scene given further stunning life but John Williams uplifting score/theme for the elderly Jedi Master.
On set at Elstree Studios, a crane was used to lift the heavy X-wing partially from the Dagobah swamp but unexpected practical effects problems cause delays that would frustrate Irvin Kershner no end on the day, his attentions observed by George Lucas who was on set visiting but seemed unworried and used to the problems from his time making the original Star Wars in 1976. Ultimately, just the partial rear facing shot scene alone of it rising out from the water would take ten hours to film successfully at Elstree.
The full shot of the fighter in the air heading to shore would be handled as a model shot by ILM in post production.
