ILM CLASSIC IMAGE: DEATH STAR DAYS!

It was cramped for the heroic fighter squadrons of the Rebellion racing to destroy the second Death Star through its labyrinth conduits, but it was even more cramped for the ILM talents of model making/filming talents Ira Keeler and Steve Gawley, seen above putting the last few touches to the space station's impressive main reactor miniature set for filming in late 1982.

Find out more about the incredible, demanding but ultimately breathtaking work achieved by the technical artists and wizards at ILM for that final film of the original Classic Trilogy, Return of the Jedi, via a great and highly revealing new behind the scenes book from one of that esteemed team of eighties dream makers, Bill Kimberlin, available now- Inside the Star Wars Empire.
